For my next burger adventure I went to this bar and lounge a few blocks from home called Alibi. This place is located off of N Interstate Ave and can’t be missed with it’s extremely larger and bright sign out front. When I went inside the place it had a Hawaiian theme to it, with small tiki’s and lays all over. The lighting was dim and the seats were all red leather. When I sat down I was handed a menu that was also Hawaiian themed. The menu had a variety of Hawaiian dishes to top off the theme they had going. The menu was extremely easy to read and was very specific about what the dishes came with. As I sat gazing over the menu I could hear people singing karaoke and having a good time. I found the perfect thing to try the Kaula Pork Burger. This burger looked and sounded so delicious I had to place my order.

When my order arrived it smelled so good I was ready to dig in as soon as the server placed it in front of my big brown eyes. This burger was so delicious with the patty smothered with Kaula pulled pork on top. It was like biting in to heaven as the Kalua Pork just melted with every bite. The entire burger was two larger buns covered with mayo and BBQ sauce. Inside was green leaf lettuce, tomatoes, the beef patty and the Kalua pork topped with cheddar cheese. I got a side of fries which were nicely cooked to a good crisp and lightly salted.  This burger hit the spot with the Hawaiian theme this bar had.

Whataburger

So over the weekend I went out of town to Austin, Texas. While in Austin, I got a chance to stop by a very popular burger place called Whataburger. Now this place is somewhat of a fast food joint, but the burgers are to die for. The company's core products include the "Whataburger", the "Whataburger Jr.", the "Justaburger", the "Whatacatch" (fish sandwich), the "Whatachick'n" (chicken), and the "Whatataco" (taco). The company also has a breakfast menu. Also to add the cherry on top, Whataburger also produces their ketchup, which is very popular, and also sold and every chain.

When approaching the white and orange stripped building I didn’t know what to expect. The line was out the door so I knew I was in for some sort of treat. I step in the building, which is nothing special; everything is setup like your typical fast food joint. I begin to glance over the menu and notice all the cool option Whataburger had to offer. Seemed like Whataburger took on a big sandwich menu in order to have a little bit of everything, so that people would have options. While placing my order, I also noticed how friendly the workers were and how they took pride in their customer service. So I order the bacon cheese burger; this seems to be always my go to when first trying a new place. Personally, I believe if you call yourself a burger joint there should be no way to screwing that one up. I also order a side of fries and make sure I could give the Whataburger ketchup a try.

Slow Bar/ Slow Burger

On my next burger adventure I came across a local favorite called the Slow Burger. This delicious creation is located at two different places. A family friendly restaurant on NE Glisan St. and the second location is a bar called Slow Bar off of SE Grand Ave. I decided to go to both locations to see what the atmosphere was like. I decided on the bar location first and when arriving it seems like a small hole in the wall.  When entering, I found the place to be nicely set up. They had a variety off sitting for different groups of people. I choose to sit in a booth which had a nice dim lighting to it, perfect for my guest and me. The menu was easy to read and well detailed about the different food it featured. The restaurant Slow Burger on the other hand, had a completely different vibe. It was open and outside with picnic benches to sit at with umbrellas to block the sun. At Slow Burger, they also had a self serves for water. The water was different but refreshing; it had slices of cucumber inside and nice cold ice cubes. This location is definitely a place where you can bring your kids and friends for a nice Portland summer lunch, or dinner. The Slow bar location is a hang out spot with a creative food menu more altered for adults; the restaurant Slow Burger is awesome for families. I really like the locations are two separate atmospheres brought together by a great menu with delicious food.

Now on to the Slow Burger, this burger is built to perfection with its open face plating comes two large buns with the house relish and Aioli sauce smeared across them giving the buns a nice smooth texture. And in between those two buns are two huge onion rings, butter lettuce, and the mouthwatering beef patty. When I say HUGE onion ring, I mean huge to the point you have to flip one upside down to make the burger small enough to fit in your mouth. This delicious burger comes with a side of either a house salad or French fries. Which the French fries can be upgraded to what they call stinky fries my friends…yes stinky. These fries are smothered with melted cheese…five different kinds. That is the icing on the cake, a unique burger with even more unique fries. So with that in mind, I gave Slow Burger/Bar a unique 5 out of 5, I will definitely be returning to either location as long as I can get the same mouth watering burger every time.

Killer Burger

Everyone across town has been raging about the new place called Killer Burger. Killer Burger hasn’t even been around for long and it’s already known as one of the best, if not the best burger spot in Portland, Oregon.  So I stop by there Sandy location to see what the hype is about.

So walking into the burger joint, I noticed its rustic look; the place isn’t designed heavily but made comfortable enough to enjoy a quick bite to eat. In other words, this place is banking on its burgers not its look. I grab a menu and take a glance. There are many different styles of burgers, Killer burgers insane killer toppings top my list for over the top-topping burgers. Every burger they have comes with bacon and fries, and the rest is just magic. So order the famous Peanut Butter Pickle Burger and some of their fries.

It wasn’t long before my order was up and I was staring face to face with my little peanut butter buddle of joy. The burger had a great body and it looked clean. I bite into it and it was perfect. The peanut butter gives it the perfect amount of sweet, while the pickle and bacon give you a salty flavor. This burger is a must try. I try some of the fry which are hot, golden and crispy, and they are good but nothing too exciting. The burger is where all the action is. For my Killer Burger rating, I’m going to have to give this place 5 out of 5. It tops my list so far as the best burger in Portland, Oregon right now.

BURGERVILLE

I have been to this Burgerville many many times and my last visit has me scratching my head at just how poorly ran this chain fast food location can be.  Here it is a place that specializes on local this and local that, but they don’t know how to treat local people or have prices to fit the local pocket book. The location I tried out for this particular blog was the one located on MLK. This is a very very popular location because it’s next to the Lloyd center (biggest mall in Oregon) and the Moda Center (NBA Blazers basketball stadium).

Anyway, I stopped in because I was in the area and could use a little lunch.  The place was fairly busy but I noticed the people working were completely flustered. Being that it was such a warm day I noticed they had a lot of orders of milkshakes and they were having problems getting on the same page on what people wanted. I ordered my Tillamook cheese burger with a side of fries and a drink and it cost about as much as it would cost to eat at a real restaurant. I try brushing that off, until I noticed that it was taking real restaurant time for me to get my food. I waited 20 minutes, before getting my meal. Once I got my food, I go to sit down and the whole place is a mess. It must had been some time since the last employees can out and wiped down some of the tables. So I find the least messy spot and try to enjoy my meal.

Now if you have read any of my blogs prior to this one you know I’m an easy to please burger guy. Not in this case, this burger and fries were horrible. I go to take bite and the sandwich is just over run by mayo and ketchup. Let alone there’s a thin piece of lettuce there for color I guess because u couldn’t taste it being that thin. It was just sloppy. Also the fries were about as mushy and greasy as a fry could possible get. The whole experience made me feel I had wasted my money. So on the burger rating I gave Burgerville a 1.5 out of 5. Thanks for the Dr. Pepper.

BURGER MEMES

ACROPOLIS

Now this next place isn’t your typical steak house, and it isn’t your typical strip club, it’s both. Acropolis Steakhouse Strip club, where I’ll be trying the Acrop “Colossal” Burger. The bigger is known across town to be one of the biggest burger in Portland. It is said that the colossal burger has up to 2lbs in patty and it served on a 14 inch bun. So I traveled across Portland to this steak house located on Se Mcloughlin Blvd.

When arriving to my destination, my first take on it was, it’s a strip club and not at all somewhere, where I’d see myself planning to eat. I noticed the building had a backside to it where you could ring a cow bell and order food outside and not come in. This is good for all of the people who’d rather not be in that environment or people who aren't old enough; they can still enjoy the food. I step inside and the place has a cover, nothing too big about five bucks. I didn’t mind paying for this because I knew it was to help pay for all the entertainment.  So I walk in, have a seat, and give the menu a quick glance. I notice that everything is fairly priced and has decent portions. I was told the owner owns a cow farm so they get really good high quality beef for a really good price. I order the colossal and enjoy the entertainment as I wait for my two pound baby.

When the burger comes out, my eyes were open wide and my mouth was over filled with drool. For I had never seen a burger so big in my life, I mean so big it had to be heard together with a knife. I mean so big that I had to cut the burger in four to take a portion out to eat. So I bite into this massive goodness to find myself no so impressed. The patty was well flavored and almost seemed steak like and the burger was well put together. But the problem I was having with burger was it was too simple. Cheese, lettuce, and onion as simple as you could get. The burger needed bacon, grilled onion, or just something to add another flavor note. And for that I had to give the 2lb Acrop burger 2.5 out of 5. It’s a must see attraction, but go for the entertainment and the food not just the food.
